Vita Global is hosting a film screening in Phoenix, Arizona called Poverty, Inc., a thought-provoking film that has earned 40 international film festival honors including a “Best of Fests” selection at IDFA- the biggest documentary festival in the world. Drawing from over 200 interviews filmed in 20 countries, Poverty Inc. unearths an uncomfortable side of charity we can no longer ignore.
Certifying and Supporting B Corps is overseen by B Lab®, a recognized nonprofit governing body, which holds all entities seeking evaluation and certification, globally, to a very high standard and moral code. B Lab® believes at the very core of an entity’s purpose is an oath to use business for good, to positively impact the world around them socially, environmentally and economically. Not to be confused with Benefit Corporation legal US for-profit status, though ethics and values are similar, becoming a Certified B Corporation® stands alone.
I arrived in Tanzania this week, ready to begin another inspirational initiative with the Vital Voices team where we will assist budding entrepreneurs with their business. #VVGrow. As I prepared for this trip I recounted the path that lead me here, the lives I saw impacted and the friendships I made along the way.
Those people, that marked us most significantly were those small voices. At least they were small to begin with. Now influencing the people of the world.
We say goodbye to our team member Tiffany’s grandmother, Helen Haskins, who passed away on July 24th. She left behind a legacy that can be shared.
